Ford 4500 RDS radio code
The Ford 4500 RDS-EON is the cassette radio Ford fitted to most of its range in the early 2000s. It is tough, still in daily use in thousands of Transits and Fiestas, and it locks with CODE the moment the battery is disconnected. If the serial number on your 4500 RDS starts with M or V, enter it in the generator above and the original four-digit code is calculated for free – no dealer, no waiting for a call-back.
How to get your Ford 4500 RDS radio code in 3 steps
- Display the serial number. Switch the radio on and press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 together (older M-series units: 2 and 6) until a serial such as V123456 or M123456 appears. No luck? The serial is also printed on the label on the radio casing.
- Enter the serial in the generator above. The original factory code for your radio is calculated instantly and shown on screen. The service is free; a small donation lets you skip the short wait timer.
- Enter the code on the radio. With CODE or four dashes on the display, press preset 1 repeatedly for the first digit, 2 for the second, 3 for the third and 4 for the fourth, then press and hold 5 until the radio beeps and plays.

Which Ford models have the Ford 4500 RDS?
The 4500 RDS-EON was fitted from about 2000 to 2008 to the Transit Mk6 and Transit Connect, Fiesta Mk6, Focus Mk1 (facelift), Mondeo Mk3, Fusion, Ka Mk1, Puma and Cougar. Early units have an M-series serial, later ones a V-series serial. Display it by holding presets 1 and 6 (or 2 and 6) with the radio switched on, or read it from the label on the side of the casing. Its stablemates – the Ford Sound 2000, 3000 Traffic, 4000 RDS and 5000 RDS – are supported in exactly the same way.
Serial number does not start with M or V?
Then your radio uses a different security system and this generator cannot calculate its code. Fords with a SYNC touchscreen (roughly 2015 onward) do not use a radio code at all: the unit is paired to the car and unlocks by itself after a battery change.
Ford 4500 RDS radio code: frequently asked questions
- Where is the serial number on a Ford 4500 RDS-EON?
- With the radio on and CODE displayed, hold presets 1 and 6 together; on some units it is 2 and 6. After a few seconds the serial – M or V plus six digits – appears. If the display stays on CODE, remove the radio with the two U-shaped release keys and read the serial from the sticker on the side or top of the metal casing.
- Is the 4500 RDS code the same as the 6000 CD code?
- No – every radio has its own code derived from its own serial number, so a code from another unit or from the car's handbook won't work unless it was written down for this exact radio. Enter the serial of the radio in front of you and use the code the generator returns.
- How do I enter the code on the 4500 RDS-EON?
- Exactly like the 6000 CD: with CODE showing, press preset 1 repeatedly for the first digit, 2 for the second, 3 for the third and 4 for the fourth, then press and hold 5 until the radio beeps and the tuner comes on. If it shows WAIT, leave it powered on for up to an hour and try the correct code once more.
