Ford Mondeo radio code

Three generations of Ford Mondeo – Mk2, Mk3 and Mk4, built from 1996 to 2014 – left the factory with coded Visteon, Blaupunkt and Sony radios. Disconnect the battery, replace a blown fuse or swap the head unit and the display shows CODE. The generator above turns your radio's M or V serial number into the original unlock code in seconds, free of charge.

How to get your Ford Mondeo radio code in 3 steps

  1. Display the serial number. Switch the radio on and press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 together (older M-series units: 2 and 6) until a serial such as V123456 or M123456 appears. No luck? The serial is also printed on the label on the radio casing.
  2. Enter the serial in the generator above. The original factory code for your radio is calculated instantly and shown on screen. The service is free; a small donation lets you skip the short wait timer.
  3. Enter the code on the radio. With CODE or four dashes on the display, press preset 1 repeatedly for the first digit, 2 for the second, 3 for the third and 4 for the fourth, then press and hold 5 until the radio beeps and plays.

Which radios are fitted to the Ford Mondeo?

Mondeo Mk2 (1996–2000): Ford Sound 2000, 4000 RDS and 5000 RDS – M-series serials, shown by holding 2 and 6. Mondeo Mk3 (2000–2007): 6000 CD, 4500 RDS-EON, 5000 C and the Sony CD/6-disc changer – early cars M-series, later cars V-series. Mondeo Mk4 (2007–2014): 6000 CD and Sony DAB – V-series serials, shown by holding 1 and 6. The Mondeo Mk5 from 2014 has a SYNC 2 or SYNC 3 unit with no radio code.

Serial number does not start with M or V?

Then your radio uses a different security system and this generator cannot calculate its code. Fords with a SYNC touchscreen (roughly 2015 onward) do not use a radio code at all: the unit is paired to the car and unlocks by itself after a battery change.

Ford Mondeo radio code: frequently asked questions

How do I get the serial number from a Ford Mondeo radio?
Switch the radio on and hold buttons 1 and 6 (Mk3 and Mk4 with 6000 CD or Sony) or 2 and 6 (Mk2 and early Mk3) for about three seconds. The serial – V123456 or M123456 – scrolls across the display. If it doesn't, the same serial is printed on the label of the radio casing.
Can I unlock a Mondeo Sony 6-disc changer or Sony DAB radio?
Yes. The Sony-branded head units fitted to the Mondeo Mk3 and Mk4 are coded exactly like the 6000 CD and carry a V-series serial. Read it with buttons 1 and 6, enter it above and enter the resulting code with presets 1 to 4 and 5 to confirm.
My Mondeo is a 2015 or newer model – why is there no code?
The Mondeo Mk5 uses Ford SYNC, which is electronically married to the car rather than protected by a code. After a battery change it simply boots up again. If a SYNC screen stays dark or shows an error, the cause is a fuse, a software fault or a hardware failure, not a missing radio code.

Ready? Scroll up, type your serial number into the generator and get your Ford Mondeo radio code free.
